Scrap-buster Fabric Canvas Art: DIY

I got this inspiration after a trip to Fancy Tiger and saw some canvases hanging on the wall with fabric scraps as the main focal point. Seeing as how I have loads of fabric scraps, this was the perfect project.

Here's the how-to:

12 x 15.5 canvas, fabric scraps, scissors, fine point Sharpie, 3M spray adhesive, ruler, pencil

To start, draw diagonals. I made mine fairly small at first & decided it would look too busy, so I erased and made them a bit bigger. Ultimately, I made 40 full diamonds with five half diamonds running along the side and the top (see picture).

Next, cut out just slightly smaller diamonds from your fabric scraps. Cut a few extra in case you don't like a few after laying them out. I ended up using 40 different fabrics!

Now trace over your pencil lines with a fine tipped Sharpie. I wanted my lines to show up but not be too bold.

Now spray a thin layer of adhesive to the canvas (this stuff works so well!) And just start placing the scraps on in whatever order you like! Here's my finished project.

Wouldn't this look so great ombre? (if you had enough different fabrics of the same color) Enjoy!

Ready to Run

The Color Run recap:

On Saturday, my mom & I participated in the craziest most colorful 5k out there, namely The Color Run. We started the race about 9:35am after waiting at the starting line so the race course wouldn't be too congested. While waiting everyone started throwing their color packets. We were quite colored before the race even started. Here are some fun pictures from the day.

Chrissy, my mom & me ready to get colorful!
These are all pictures before the race started, mind you!

Inching closer to the starting line
We did it! I am so proud of my mama! She has had recurring problems from a broken ankle & was really hesitant about running. But, she did it! Yahoo! Next to conquer: a sprint triathlon!

Who knew climbing a tree would be so hard!

The champion finishers!

This was a really low key run, no timing, etc. I had so much fun.
Any fun fitness challenges for you this summer?

Tuesday Tutorial: Color Block Spatulas

I measured 3 inches up from the end of the handle, marked it with pencil & taped each utensil. Because these are bamboo, they were grainy/porous, so I used primer. Depending on your material, you may not need primer at all.

After the primer is dry, spray a light layer of paint. Make sure to get the sides and the bottom.

Let dry & flip repeating on the other side. I used two coats on either side. Peel off tape as soon as paint is dry.

This is a trendy and original way to incorporate color into the kitchen (not to mention fast & affordable). Enjoy!

Color Crush: Terra Cotta

Inspired by Fall

I am currently loving this rust/terra cotta color. It is a nice, deep burst of color in the fall and winter. I got a pedicure last night & the terra cotta polish inspired this polyvore collage. Love it.

It's peacefully snowing here in the Mile High city. Yum.

Have a great Wednesday!

Pink is the Color of Life Today

I saw this flower while walking the other day & it got me blushing pink. I currently have a hankering for that pale, pearlescent pink.

Delicate, soft, humble & antique. It reminds me of poodle skirts, ballerinas, gentle kisses, and bubble gum after you've chewed it a while. ♥

Fall in LOVE with a color

Do you ever find a color that floats your fancy in a special way? I do. I seem to go through phases where I love a certain color so much that I begin seeing it everywhere and become smitten everytime I see it. Most recent color obsessions? Vermillion & robin egg blue. I love them separately & I love them together. Here are my most recent finds.

The dish towel is one of my favorite finds from Paris. Shoes: Gap. Scarf: Express. Fabric: Fancy Tiger Crafts. I love this fabric so much! Hello iPad case. Paper, bias tape, buttons: Joann. Nail polishes: Sally Hansen. Any color you can't get enough of?
